Abstrak.Teknik identifikasi jenis mineral tanah telah banyak dikembangkan. Salah satu di antara teknik identifikasi mineral tanah yang telah sering digunakan adalah analisis difraksi sinar-X. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis mineral liat pada tanah ordo Inceptisol di lahan kering Kabupaten Aceh Besar dengan menggunakan difraksi sinar-X. Sampel tanah diambil pada setiap lapisan horizon dari dua profil tanah ordo Inceptisol yaitu Oxic Haplustept Blang Bintang dan Oxic Dystrudept dari Desa Cucum. Sebelum dianalisis, sampel tanah dikeringanginkan selama dua minggu dan kemudian digerus dan disaring dengan ayakan 0,5 mm. Analisis mineral dilakukan di Laboratorium Fisika Material Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh. Identifikasi jenis mineral dominan didasarkan pada puncak dari kurva difraktogram yang dihasilkan dari analisis sinar-X.Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komposisi dan jenis mineral yang mendominasi tanah ordo Inceptisol Aceh Besar bervariasi antar subgroup tanah. Pada Inceptisol Blang Bintang, mineral tanah didominasi oleh beberapa jenis mineral yaitu feldspar, kaolinit, gibsit, goethit, dan nakrit, sedangkan pada Inceptisol Cucum didominasi oleh mineral paligorskit, gibsit, dan feldspar. Berdasarkan jenis mineral tersebut, maka kualitas tanah ordo Inceptisol Aceh Besar tergolong rendah karena banyak mengandung mineral sekunder yang memiliki kapasitas tukar kation (KTK) yang rendah.Identification of Soil Minerals using X-ray Diffraction on Inceptisols of Aceh BesarAbstract. Techniques for identifying types of soil minerals have been developed. One of the techniques for identifying soil minerals that have often been used is x-rays diffraction analysis. This study aims to determine the type of clay minerals in the soil of order Inceptisol in the dry land of Aceh Besar District using x-rays diffraction. Soil samples were taken at each horizon layer from two soil profiles of the Inceptisols order, namely Blang Bintang Oxic Haplustepts and Oxic Dystrudepts from Cucum Village. Before analysis, soil samples were dried for two weeks and then crushed and filtered with a 0.5 mm sieve. Mineral analysis was carried out at the Material Physic Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh. Identification of the dominant mineral type was based on the peak of the diffractogram curve produced from x-rays analysis. The results showed that the composition and type of minerals that dominated the soil of the Inceptisols Aceh Besar order varied between subgroups of soil. In Blang Bintang Inceptisols, soil minerals are dominated by several types of minerals, namely feldspar, kaolinite, gibsite, goethite, and nakrit, whereas in the Cucum Inceptisols it is dominated by paligorskit, gibsite, and feldspar minerals. Based on the type of mineral, the soil quality of the order of Inceptisols Aceh Besar is relatively low because it contains a lot of secondary minerals which have a low cation exchange capacity (CEC).
