A Importância da Nutrição em Animais Hospitalizados

Sabe-se que hoje é muito comum encontrar animais malnutridos no ambiente hospitalar, pois os clínicos não acreditam que a alimentação seja tão necessária para o sucesso da recuperação do paciente e isso não pode ser negligenciado. É importante ter em mente que os efeitos relacionados a isso implicam o aumento da morbidade e mortalidade e que objetivo da nutrição, seja esta por via enteral ou parenteral, é prevenir a desnutrição e auxiliar na recuperação do paciente. Deve-se formular protocolos para definir as necessidades calóricas do animal e sempre acompanhar os prontuários dos mesmos, estando atento ao seu consumo diário de alimentos para saber quando e como intervir nutricionalmente. O tipo de nutrição a ser aplicado vai depender das condições clinicas de cada indivíduo e pode variar de acordo com a doença primária, do quadro clínico e das possíveis complicações. O correto é procurar causar o mínimo de estresse ou trauma adicional ao animal, sempre iniciando pelo suporte nutricional básico como a estimulação do apetite, evoluindo, se necessário, para a técnica de nutrição enteral ou parenteral. Esta revisão de literatura tem como objetivo relatar a importância da nutrição em animais hospitalizados, demonstrando os métodos disponíveis e os efeitos benéficos de se intervir nutricionalmente. Palavras-chave: Nutrição. Parenteral. AbstractIt is known that today it is very common to find malnourished animals in the hospital environment, because they are no longer accepted by a diet and condition for the success of the patient's recovery and can be neglected. It is important to keep in mind and the effects regarding the increase of morbidity and mortality and the goal of nutrition, through enteral or parenteral, and prevent malnutrition and assist in the patient’s recovery. Protocols should be formulated to define the animal’s caloric need and always follow the animals’ files,being aware  of their daily consumption of food to know when and how to intervene nutritionally. The type of nutrition to be applied will depend on the clinical conditions of each individual and may vary according to the primary disease, clinical signs and possible solutions. The correct thing is to try to cause the minimum stress possible to the animal, always starting with basic nutritional support as a stimulation of appetite, evolving if necessary for an enteral or parenteral nutrition technique. This literature review aims to report the importance of nutrition in hospitalized animals, demonstrating the available methods and the beneficial effects of nutritionally intervening. Keywords: Nutrition.
