Androgenic anabolic steroids (AAS), synthetic derivatives of testosterone, have been used abusively in Western societies. This proliferation of indiscriminate use is due to the new form of socio-cultural organization, which exalts the worship of the muscular body as a form of pattern to be followed among individuals, creating the illusion that this body model is healthy, without Recurrence of additive to achieve it, due to the overvaluation of the present. AASs enter as a salvation to reach this bodily model in a short time, due to its rapid and anabolic action, where it creates the ignorance of androgenic and toxic side effects. The present study aimed to identify and problematize the reasons that lead to the use of AAS by bodybuilders from an anthropological perspective, at a Goiânia-GO gym . The method of qualitative data collection was used, with an open and closed questionnaire and a focal group with anabolic users. It was identified that the main motive that led the participants to use anabolic steroids was their social circle (friends), and the overvaluation of the present, due to the rapid anabolic action of the AAS.
