The article examines the work of Andrey Tarkovsky in the context of the 20 th century Modernist art. Dividing the world into the profane and sacral, the time and eternity, using the motifs characteristic of the literature of the early 1900s can also be found in Tarkovskys films. The development of the world film modernism is inconceivable without this Russian filmmaker.
