The article is devoted to investigation of the motivation in learning a foreign language by postgrad- uates in the medical school. Motivation is regarded by the author as a factor of influence on the success of the professional foreign language teaching. The paper presents a theoretical analysis of experimental studies of postgraduate teaching issues such as: individual personality traits, the status in the group, positive or negative experience of learning a foreign language, etc. This article contains the material on the results of the postgraduate students’ survey on issues related to the objectives of learning a foreign language, its application possibilities in practical professional work and so on.
