According to Sobernheim's data, Staphylococcus aureus is the most frequent causative agent of this disease (87.8%); the etiological role of Streptococcus is much more modest (14%). Of the predisposing factors, trauma is especially important. As for the therapy of osteomyelitis, according to Mnner (ibid.), in recent years there has been a tendency to refrain from extensive surgical intervention in favor of conservative methods of treatment. At the same time, the results obtained with the help of vaccine and serotherapy are still unclear.
