Wanting to use the agglutination reaction for syphilis serodiagnosis, Mаnо took a culture of pale spirochaetes from the old Wassemann and Fischer laboratory strain) and syphilitic serum (the latter was taken in a dilution of 1:80-1:1280). In a study of 100 sera, the agglutination reaction coincided with Wassermann's in only 55%.
