The question of phage therapy for dysentery arose almost simultaneously with the discovery of the bacteriophage. Reviews of the results of bacteriophage treatment were rather contradictory. So, some researchers (I. A. Kassirsky, 1939; N. S. Polyansky, 1946; and others) did not see a convincing effect, others received good results in the treatment of acute dysentery (V. A. Krestovnikova, 1943; A. E. Reznik, 1947; and others).
