In our country, in comparison with the countries of Europe, North America and other countries, until recently, poliomyelitis was found only in the form of sporadic cases or small focal outbreaks. In the post-war period, the incidence of poliomyelitis increased both abroad and in the USSR. In 1955-56. the first epidemic outbreaks of this infection were noted in most regions of our country, including the Volga region.
