In gynecology, asepsis is considered almost unanimously to be a method that gives the best results, and in obstetrics, antiseptic delivery is still very common. The doctrine of self-infection of women in childbirth contributes not little to this due to the immigration of pathogenic microbes from the sleeve into the uterine cavity or into other wounds of the genital canal that occurred during the labor act. Vaginal disinfectant douching is considered a necessary part on the basis of personal practical observations (Ahlfeld), partly on the basis of the results of bacteriological work proving the presence of pathogenic microbes in the sleeve (Winter), Steffeck), Dderlein), Williams), Masters).
