The multifaceted activities of the largest Russian surgeon N.I. Pirogova had a huge impact on the formation of the St. Petersburg obstetric and gynecological school and, in general, on the development of Russian gynecology. A.M. Geselevich and E.I. Smirnov rightly point out that the words multifaceted activity precisely in relation to N.I. Pirogov ... very accurately determine the features of his work. He did not walk along the indicated corridor of one topic, even one specialty. He posed questions broadly and comprehensively resolved them, capturing neighboring specialties with the help of various scientific methods. No wonder he said that the sciences do not just border on each other, but mutually penetrate each other."
