This paper describes the specifics of aesthetics as one of the sections of philosophical knowledge. The author identifies the main areas of research in modern aesthetics. The interpretation of aesthetics as a purely descriptive discipline, “the science of the beauty” and psychology in aesthetics is subjected to reasoned criticism. The basic trends of research in contemporary aesthetics are outlined.
