The article considers a liberal approach to the problem of estimation of prospects of development of small-scale production of Central Russia in the post-reform period, which is reflected in the publications of one of the notable representatives of Russian economic thought - a senator and professor V.P. Bezobrazov. His work is distinguished by deep understanding of the specifics of Russian economic reality, creative search for ways to integrate traditional economy to the industrial paradigm of the second half of the XIX century.
