Results of evolution of line building as one of townplanning composition types are analyzed. The features of line building composition in Samara are described. Historic examples of line compositions in national and local practice are viewed. Advantages and disadvantages of line building as well as conditions of return of line composition principles in contemporary planning of Samara city.
