Efficient prophylactic vaccines have been developed to prevent cervical cancer, a frequent female oncological disease caused by carcinogenic human papillomaviruses. World Health Organization worked out the program for prophylaxis of cervical cancer and control of the disease. It includes preventive adolescent vaccinations, screening of precancerous cervical lesions in women as well as cervical cancer treatment if originated. Cervical cancer diagnostics is being improved, development of therapeutic human papillomaviruses vaccines is in progress.
