The typologization of testing according to its functional purpose is proposed: testing for updating knowledge, tests for self-diagnostics of students in order to form an individual educational trajectory (adaptive), tests for controlling knowledge and skills. A detailed description of the first and third types of testing is given - the toolkit for their creation, approaches to the formation of test tasks, which strengthen the motivational aspect of training, are given. A detailed algorithm for creating a randomized exam test is proposed. The analysis of feedback from students on the problem of perception of the format of the exam in the form of testing is presented.
