to evaluate the role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) on the intestinal mucosa in the evolution of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The risk factors for EBV infection and the frequency of EBV-associated lymphoproliferative disorders in IBD patients were also investigated.
