Engineering Technology students have difficulty communicating their thoughts. This study examined the language needs of Engineering Technology students of Mindanao State University, General Santos City, with the end goal of developing instructional materials for use in Technical English 1 subject. This is a descriptive study that involves all freshmen students during the first semester of AY 2012-2013. A validated and reliability tested needs analysis questionnaire was used in examining the language needs of the respondents. Listening, speaking, reading and writing skills warrant the focus in the English 1 subject. Keywords: Communication skills, language needs, instructional materials, General Santos City, Philippines.
