Entre a melancolia e a exaltação: povo e nação na obra de Plínio Salgado

O artigo pretende mostrar como Plínio Salgado retrata o Brasil e o homem brasileiro, mapeando as raízes culturais "singulares" da nossa brasilidade, em contraste com a realidade européia e, ao fazê-lo, define sua concepção de Nação. O nosso pressuposto é que o quadro referencial que conforma o pensamento pliniano sobre Povo/Nação é o do Romantismo. Os conceitos de Povo/Nação, elaborados em afinidade com esses referentes, devem ser entendidos como parte constitutiva da ideologia nacionalista do integralismo na versão desse autor. Interessa-nos ressaltar que as formulações políticas de Plínio Salgado foram elaboradas em um momento da história brasileira, em que as definições da identidade e do caráter nacional brasileiros eram pré-requisitos indispensáveis para a escolha de modelos e o estabelecimento de padrões de sociabilidade política. Daí a importância de se destacar os seus pontos de contato com a obra de outros ensaístas do período. The article has the aim to show the way in which Plínio Salgado portrays Brazil and its people. He tracks the unique cultural roots of Brazilian very own self, therefore contrasting them with the European reality and, by doing so, he defines a concept of Nation. Our presupposition is that the referential frame which shapes Salgado's thinking about People/Nation, is the same used in the Romanticism. The concepts of People/Nation, elaborated in affinity with such referential, must be understood as a constitutive part of the nationalist ideology of "Integralismo" in the author's perspective. We are interested in highlighting the fact that the political formulations of Plínio Salgado were elaborated in a moment of Brazilian history, in which the definition of a national identity and character, were considered essential prerequisites for the choice of role models and for establishing patterns of political sociability. Thus the importance to highlight the aspects of his thoughts which have points in common with the work from other authors of the time
