Abstract Paddlefish Polyodon spathula , 180–250 mm in total length and reared in concrete raceways, were implanted with 1‐mm‐long coded wire tags to evaluate short‐term (72 h) retention. Retention rates were significantly different ( P < 0.01) among implant locations. Mean retention rates were: tip of rostrum, 71%; side of rostrum, 96% : underside of rostrum, 99%.
