Measurements of water velocity with electromagnetic instruments mounted on wading rods have been reported to be most accurate when the operator is positioned to the side and downstream from the meter. Measurements taken in a large river from several positions lateral and downstream from the meter at different ranges of velocity indicated that no differences occurred among positions and that all positions represented accurate estimates.
