The accuracy and precision of Pesola® spring scales for weighing live and dead fish were examined in the field and laboratory. Fish weights of 0.3–995.0 g obtained with Pesola spring scales differed less than 1% from those obtained with an Ohaus® triplebeam balance. Pesola spring scales were easier to use and carry in the field than the triple‐beam balance, and they can provide years of service at little cost.
