The 1986 harvest and sale of baitfish in Wyoming were assessed through a mail survey of licensed personal‐use collectors and through interviews with retail dealers. A 95% return by personal‐use collectors indicated that 233 collectors harvested 156,000 baitfish. Interviews with 58 of 65 (89%) licensed dealers indicated that they sold 671,000 baitfish, at least 82% of which were collected from the wild in Wyoming waters. Retail value of sales was $92,000, which is relatively small compared to sales in other states. Size of this industry is restricted by a low human population and by regulations–primarily the ban on interbasin transportation of live fish–that limit both wholesale and retail supplies of baitfish.
