Current evidence supports the classification of the virus causing dermal sarcoma on walleyes Stizostedion vitreum as a member of the family Retroviridae. One of the characteristics of this group of viruses is the presence of a lipid envelope. In this report we document studies conducted that demonstrate the presence of a lipid envelope on the walleye dermal sarcoma virus.
