Maxillary nodular lesions were found on specimens of Parapocryptes serperaster that had come from Malasia and were exhibited in an aquarium. One fish also displayed small vesicles on the skin over the entire body. Mortality levels in affected fish reached 90%. Many virus‐like particles resembling iridoviruses were observed in both types of skin lesions. Several features of the lesions distinguish this disease from that caused by the lymphocystis virus.
