Estimates of ages from scales and cross sections of otoliths from 1,787 Pacific herring Clupea harengus pallasi were compared to determine agreement in ages between the two structures. There was an overall agreement of 70.1%. Scales are the most suitable structure for age analysis of Pacific herring.
