An open‐access fishery model incorporating negative effects from harvesting techniques was developed to derive a bionomic equilibrium harvest rate. The model was applied to the bay scallop fishery in North Carolina. The results suggested that clam kicking and clam raking have had significant negative effects on the bay scallop recruitment process.
