A leadless big‐M trap (1.2 × 1.2 × 0.6‐m‐high metal frame covered with a 38‐mm‐bar‐mesh netting) was used successfully to capture common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in Pymatuning Lake, Pennsylvania. Best catches occurred when the trap was baited with cottonseed cake soaked in molasses. Night catches were not significantly different from day catches. Important features of the big‐M trap include its ease of setting by one person, its lightness and stackability, and its unique design of floating netting that effectively enlarges the vertical fishing height to over 2 m.
