Ten inland lakes in northeastern Ontario, ranging in size from 59 to 663 hectares, were surveyed and found to be suitable for but devoid of lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush). Subsequently, hatchery‐reared fin‐clipped lake trout were introduced into each of the lakes between 1971 and 1975. Netting assessments in 1981 and 1982 captured unclipped lake trout in all 10 lakes. A total of 376 naturally reproduced fish were caught, ranging in age from 1 to 5. This study documents successful reproduction of hatchery‐reared lake trout and the establishment of apparently self‐sustaining lake trout populations.
