An index based on the relationship between angler harvest and mean summer phytoplankton standing crop (chlorophyll α) is a basis for estimating the annual yield of sportfishes in midwestern lakes and reservoirs. The relationship is stronger than that between fish yield and total phosphorus, alkalinity, or the morphoedaphic index.
