Results of genetic analyses are described for the duplicated liver and neural malate dehydrogenase loci (MDH‐1 and MDH‐2), including a null allele at MDH‐1. Analysis of diaphorase (DIA) variation supports a model of a single locus coding for monomeric DIA in brown trout. Random joint segregation was observed between MDH‐1 and MDH‐2 and between DIA and MDH‐2 in testcross progeny of heterozygous males and females.
