Phosphorus fertilization rates were reduced from 9 to 4.5 kg/hectare/application of P 2 O 5 in ponds on a wooded watershed without significant decline in sunfish production. Evaluation of the present and an earlier study suggests that 9 kg/hectare/application of P 2 O 5 be used for woodland ponds with heavy fishing pressure, while 4.5 kg/hectare/application is suitable for woodland ponds subject to less fishing.
