Trends in the profession of fisheries science are explored and projected as far as possible. Although there is a slowdown in the rate of expansion of the fisheries profession, it seems inevitable that the profession will continue to rapidly expand in the long run. Professional fisheries scientists judged English rhetoric and report writing to be the most important set of undergraduate courses taken, with quantitative sciences a close second. It seems that fisheries science as a profession is large enough to justify more undergraduate specialization.
