Brain Acetylcholinesterase from Cutthroat Trout

Acetylcholinesterase (EC 3.1.1.7, acetylcholine acetyl‐hydrolase) was studied in brain tissue from cutthroat trout, Salmo clarki. Utilizing a manometric technique the specific activity was determined to be 18 μmoles acetylcholine hydrolyzed/mg protein per hour. Acetylcholine was found to be the optimum substrate with an optimum concentration of 10 mM. In addition, the effects of some cations and certain anticholinesterase agents were investigated.
