Samples of kokanee, brook trout, and rainbow trout in Elk Lake, Oregon, were taken with gill nets and a mid‐water trawl in the summers of 1962 and 1963. Brook trout were associated closely with the lake bottom. Small fish were most abundant in shallow waters, larger ones tended to be in deep water. Kokanee were found in all depths except in mid‐summer when they were largely associated with the bottom. Throughout the summer, kokanee were most abundant in deeper waters of the lake. Food studies suggest that kokanee and brook trout generally used different foods while rainbow and brook trout may have extensively used foods in common. There was evidence that higher fishing mortalities occurred among kokanee than brook trout.
