The median lethal temperatures for Tilapia mossambica (Peters) at different acclimation temperatures were estimated and the ultimate upper lethal temperature was found to lie between 38.20°C and 38.25° C. The effects of acclimation temperature and period of acclimation upon resistance were also investigated. An average acclimation rate of 1° per 150 minutes was estimated for fish transferred directly from 25° C to 30° C whereas it was observed that fish transferred from 25° to 15° C were not fully acclimated even after 20 days. These data confirm that T. mossambica is a thermophilic species.
