Bottom fauna and plankton populations at two physically similar locations on the Montreal River, Saskatchewan, were compared. Filter‐feeding Trichoptera larvae were more abundant at the station below a series of productive lakes. This difference was related to the richer supply of suspended food in the water, rather than to differences in alkalinity. Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera distributions are also discussed.
