Tagging experiments were conducted in northeastern North Carolina during 1955 and 1956 to select a tag suitable for use in brackish waters for studying population dynamics and movements of striped bass. The following tag comparisons were carried out: streamer and Petersen, streamer and soft spaghetti, and streamer and hard spaghetti. Observations were made on recovery of tags as related to size of fish, length of time tagged, selectivity of tagged fish by commercial gear, and durability of tags. The streamer tag was selected from those tested as the one best suited for future use.
