Recapture pattern of whitefish tagged in South Bay, northern Lake Huron, suggests a major migration route east along the South shore of Manitoulin Island into Georgian Bay. Tagged whitefish leave South Bay in early summer, spend the remainder of the year outside and return again the following spring. No fish tagged in Georgian Bay were recaptured outside that body of water. Tagging seems to indicate two discreet populations. Study is based on recaptures from 5,901 tagged whitefish of legal and sub‐legal size (14–20 inches fork length) during the years 1949–1953.
