Yields of smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieui) hatched in the years 1941 through 1949 have been estimated for South Bay, Lake Huron. Subsidiary estimates for bass in neighboring waters were also made. Fluctuations in year‐class strength appear to be more or less synchronous throughout the district. Variations in yield from the year classes in South Bay correlated directly with the algebraic sum of the monthly deviations from the mean air temperatures over the months July through October of the year of hatching.
