Recreational fishing contributes a substantial amount to Floridaˈs economy. A variety of game and rough fishes of which the more important are listed, make up the catch. Commercial fishing operations, practically eliminated in 1946, are being resumed as detailed studies show the effect of such exploitation on total fish populations. Further investigations are under way to determine the best utilization of fishery resources, consistent with the maintenance of a high degree of success by sport fishermen.
