As the aquaculture industry continues to grow, consultants capable of providing critical information to aquaculturists, other technical personnel, investors and financiers, and the general public play an increasingly important role on both national and international levels. Private consultants represent a logical vehicle for the integration of technology from research into practice. The establishment of credibility as an expert is crucial to the success of a consulting practice. The tools available to consultants for acquiring and maintaining information, and the consultant's role in processing, synthesizing, and presenting this information and guiding the client are discussed.
