Alternatives to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for the relief of menopausal symptoms include lifestyle and dietary changes, over‐the‐counter nutritional supplements and complementary therapies, many of which are considered to be natural. However, there is a lack of evidence to confirm benefits or highlight possible adverse effects. In this article, the effectiveness and safety of these alternative therapies are discussed. Some prescribed medications are also considered. Alternatives are not generally as effective as HRT, but they can help to reduce some symptoms.
