Urodynamic testing is the accepted method of investigating urinary incontinence. The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recommends urodynamic testing prior to surgery for stress urinary incontinence. However, there are no clear guidelines for its use prior to other forms of gynaecological surgery. This review gives an overview of urodynamics, their role and indications, and discusses the evidence for urodynamic testing in different clinical scenarios.
