© 2004 Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists 210 We advocate a problem based learning (PBL) approach because it is student-centred, motivating and, like other interactive small group methods of teaching, fosters deeper understanding. PBL also allows the learner to use prior knowledge to facilitate learning and enhances generic skills such as team work and respect for each other. We freely acknowledge, though, that teaching can be undertaken in any number of ways to achieve the best possible outcome. We welcome your contribution to this debate about how to create a postgraduate curriculum in which ethics and law merge seamlessly with the clinical modules.
