Writing has long been a team sport - the concept of collaborative writing is not new but remains fraught with frustrations, poor processes and could learn from the software world. Not only are there now better tools and platforms to support collaborative writing, there are also lessons to be learned from other collaborative, creative processes such as software design. This paper explores some of the pitfalls of current practice and provides tips, based on our experiences as collaborative writers.
