Zanthoxylum nitidum (Rutaceae) has been widely used in folk medicine for the treatment of traumatic injuries, fever, malaria, chronic cough, asthma, hepatitis, nephritis, hydro emphysema and rheumatoid arthritis, which was found in Lào Cai, Hòa Bình, Vĩnh Phúc, Bắc Thái, Cao Bằng, Lạng Sơn, Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh, Đắc Lắc provinces of Vietnam. This species is very well known for its diversified chemical composition, particularly by the presence of alkaloids. In this paper, we focus on non‐alkaloid components isolated from the twigs and trunks of Zanthoxylum nitidum , including sesamin ( 1 ), 2,6‐dimethoxybenzoquinone ( 2 ), β ‐amyrin ( 3 ), 3 β ‐hydroxycholest‐5 ene‐7‐one ( 4 ) and β ‐sitosterol ( 5 ). The chemical structures of these compounds were established by spectroscopic analysis and by comparison with the literature values. Among the five compounds, compounds 2 , 3 and 4 were isolated for the first time from this species.
