This paper presents the results of in vitro drug release and calculating release kinetics of lovastatine from alginate/chitosan/lovastatine (ACL) composite films with and without polyethylene oxide (PEO) and polycaprolactone (PCL) as compatibilizers. The obtained results showed that PEO and PCL have positive effects on control of drug release. The content of lovastatine released from the ACL composite films containing PEO is higher than that from the ACL composite containing PCL. The drug release kinetics of lovastatine from above films calculated according to zero order kinetic, first order kinetic, Higuchi, Hixson‐Crowell and Korsmeyer‐Peppas models indicated that the release mechanism of lovastatine from the composite films was different and depended on the nature and content of the compatibilizers.
