We present a comprehensive theory of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) based on the overlapping resonances perspective and explore the consequence of the presence of structured multiple continua on the EIT effect. We show that due to the structure in the continuum (which can also be induced optically) the EIT line shapes may become highly asymmetric.
