Takotsubo syndrome, also known as stress cardiomyopathy, apical ballooningsyndrome or “broken heart syndrome,” is a sudden, transient cardiac condition in whichleft ventricular dysfunction occurs. Stressors that can induce takotsubo syndromeinclude both emotional and physical triggers of any kind. The authors present a case ofa male patient with nonconvulsive status epilepticus and symptoms suggesting takotsubosyndrome. Echocardiographic examination revealed akinesis of the midsegment and apicalsegment of the left ventricle, and impaired left ventricle function, but no coronaryartery disease was found on cardiac angiography. The clinical symptoms, andechocardiographic and laboratory abnormalities, resolved gradually simultaneously withneurological improvement.
